2007 FAIR PARADE

Complete with floats, queens, princesses, horses, band music & dignitaries, the 2007 Glenn County Fair Parade will step off at 10:00AM on Saturday, May 19, 2007. This years’ theme is “Lambs, Hams, Quilts & Jams”.

To get to that point, the Fair Parade will have met numerous times, judges will have been hired, entries will have been sent and received, trophies will have been ordered, and many hours of planning will have been undertaken.

Which brings us to the Fair Parade Committee. You are invited to serve on the committee and help us shape this years’ parade. We will meet a few times before the parade to delegate responsibilities and start the planning process. Some of the areas of work are parade line-up, traffic control & direction, ballot tallying, and trophy presentation.

Tracy Quarne is coordinating the banks and directors; Claire Arano will coordinate the parade. Since this is our 4th year with the parade, we have it down pretty well. We would like some new ideas and participation from the Chamber members, so if you are interested in helping out, call Claire 865-2431 or Candice at 865-2311. We will start meeting shortly to consider candidates to serve as Grand Marshall.

 NORCAL I-5 RURAL PARTNERSHIP

The NorCal I-5 Rural Partnership is a collaborative ad hoc committee that began as the exploratory Tri-County Leadership Committee, which was formed for the visit of Yolanda Benson, Deputy Secretary of Jobs, Economic Development and Trade on October 5, 2006. However, when Colusa, Glenn and Tehama counties were designated as an “Economic Region” by the State of California in November 2006, the Leadership was given its current official name. The ad hoc committee’s tasks are to develop a Strategic Plan for the new “region” and to take information obtained at the October 5 and November 13, 2006 meetings back to their communities. Partnership members were directed to return to their cities and counties to assess their preparedness for “smart growth” in the areas of workforce training, economic development, transportation, infrastructure development, planning, zoning, approved “shovel ready” land for new business, industries, and sustainable housing communities. The Partnership was also asked to evaluate if their departments, boards, councils and commissions understand that growth must be a cooperative effort by all stakeholders.
